How are the rights of Twice Exceptional students protected?
Standard 1: Student Identification
A number of differentiated strategies are utilized in order to meet the needs of all students. Twice exceptional students will benefit from this best practice, researched based approach to instruction.
Standard 3: Personnel and Professional Development
DPS is committed to providing teachers with the opportunity to become AIG certified. The district also provides professional development in the strength-based Response-to-Intervention model designed to meet the needs of all students and particularly helpful in identifying and servicing our twice exceptional population.
Standard 4: Comprehensive Programming within the Total School Community
Additional enrichment opportunities are available at all DPS schools. Enrichment opportunities provide a way for the 2e students' strengths to develop.
Standard 5: Partnerships
DPS works to foster partnerships with parents, businesses, educational institutions, and community agencies to enhance and enrich services for gifted learners.
Standard 6: Program Accountability
DPS will continue to evaluate, monitor, and strengthen its AIG program to ensure the best education for its gifted and twice exceptional students.
- Practice A - Communicates procedures - 2e students have access to information about the process of identification.
- Practice B - Multiple criteria used in identification - a comprehensive profile for each student using both non-traditional and traditional standardized measures insures that 2e students are not overlooked.
- Practice C - Responds to under-represented populations - 2e students are explicitly targeted.
- Practice D - Consistency of implementation - 2e students in all DPS schools will be treated the same.
- Practice E - Written policies safeguard rights - clearly defined procedures will inform 2e families.
- Practice F - Documentation maintained - identification process and service options provided for 2e students. Reviewed annually.
